Rootstown is 6-0 against John F. Kennedy Catholic since January of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Rootstown Rovers will be playing in front of their home fans against the John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Rootstown entered their tilt with Windham with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Rootstown breezed by Windham at home to the tune of 67-24 on Monday. Given Rootstown's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Windham is ranked 599th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rootstown got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brooklynn McIntyre out in front who scored six points along with 16 rebounds and three blocks. McIntyre hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Nadia Lough, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, John F. Kennedy Catholic was fully in charge on Monday, breezing past Cleveland Central Catholic 72-28 at home. With John F. Kennedy Catholic ahead 44-14 at the half, the match was all but over already.
John F. Kennedy Catholic can attribute much of their success to Gianna Pompelia, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and five steals, and Didi Ryan, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine assists. Ryan is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Odille, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Rootstown's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-2. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 33.5 points. As for John F. Kennedy Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5.
Rootstown beat John F. Kennedy Catholic 55-45 in their previous matchup back in January. Will Rootstown repeat their success, or does John F. Kennedy Catholic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
