On Thursday, Pine Hill came up short against Menaul and fell 42-34. Pine Hill has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Virances Martinez and Leilani Charley certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Martinez scored ten points along with six rebounds, while Charley scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Natan, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Pine Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Menaul's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mikayla Sierra led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Sierra hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Mia Langeler, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Pine Hill now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Menaul, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-3.
Pine Hill won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Evangel Christian Academy/Oak Grove Classical Academy at 3:00 p.m. on January 12th. Evangel Christian Academy/Oak Grove Classical Academy is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Menaul won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Zuni at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Zuni is ranked 75th, while Menaul is ranked 56th).
