Jonathan Saavedra threw for five touchdowns as
Santa Clarita Christian (Canyon Country, Calif.) bested Southlands Christian (Walnut, Calif.) 69-0 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Saavedra to
Jon Luke Wilson in the first quarter, the Cardinals led 41-0 at the half.
Santa Clarita Christian expanded its lead to 69 points entering the fourth quarter. SCC scored four times in the third, including once on a touchdown.
Santa Clarita Christian's standout player in the win was Saavedra. The junior quarterback threw five touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
The Cardinals came in allowing an average of 19.0 points per game this season. A defensively strong Santa Clarita Christian kept the Eagles right around the 1.9 points it had been averaging per game.
The win was a nice bounce back for SCC, which lost to Saddleback Valley Christian last week, 20-6. The victory ended Santa Clarita Christian's two-game losing streak.
