Godby is 10-0 against Wakulla since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Godby Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wakulla War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Godby will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Godby has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 21 points or more this season. They really took it to St. John Paul II for the full four quarters, racking up a 53-12 victory on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Godby has managed all season.
Godby got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mar?nazha Houston out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Houston hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniyah Lewis, who scored 12 points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Wakulla struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (Chiles had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Wakulla was outmatched by Chiles on the road and fell 59-26. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Wakulla has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Wakulla had strong showings from Kyendra Thomas, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals, and Victoria Proulx, who scored eight points. Thomas scored a full 46.2% of Wakulla's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Godby's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31 points. As for Wakulla, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Godby have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 39.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wakulla struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 37.2 rebounds per game. Given Godby's sizeable advantage in that area, Wakulla will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Godby against Wakulla when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 55-8 victory. With Godby ahead 30-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
