Tempe is 0-6 against Greenway since March of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Buffaloes will head out to take on the Demons at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Tempe and Cortez have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Buffaloes put the hurt on the Colts with a sharp 16-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Hilana Valencia was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Celeste Alvarez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Tempe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Greenway got themselves on the board against Shadow Mountain on Wednesday, but Shadow Mountain never followed suit. They blew past the Matadors 19-0. The Demons are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the eighth contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Madison Bailey made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Greenway got a massive performance out of Jordyn Schad, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Schad a new career-high. Madelyn Banister also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Greenway's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Tempe, their record is now 7-4.
Tempe might still be hurting after the 22-1 loss they got from Greenway in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Can the Buffaloes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
