The Piedmont Panthers came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Forest Hills as Piedmont made off with a 56-36 win. That's another feather in the cap for Piedmont, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Piedmont's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Miles Leaks, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Leaks has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Bryan Little, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Forest Hills saw an underclassman step up: Amari Melton scored ten points along with seven rebounds. Jahmarion Mingo was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Piedmont has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Forest Hills, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Piedmont will head out on the road to take on Central Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Piedmont knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Central Academy likes a good challenge. As for Forest Hills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Stanly at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Stanly has four straight wins, Forest Hills has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
