Newton Falls and LaBrae are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Newton Falls has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Newton Falls is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs last Friday, they were much more limited against Southeast on Wednesday. They lost 16-2 to the Pirates.
Newton Falls saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madalyn Knight, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, LaBrae came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 13-2 win. The Vikings' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Riley Rowe made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Rowe was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shelby Bragg, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Vada Allen, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
LaBrae kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
LaBrae's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Newton Falls, they now have a losing record of 3-4-1.
Newton Falls suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to LaBrae in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
