The Northwestern Warriors will face off against the Bellefontaine Chieftains at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Northwestern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Northwestern not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024. They were the clear victors by a 21-7 margin over Urbana. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Hillclimbers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Addy Hensley made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hensley was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Olivia Deane was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. Those RBI were her first of the season. Julia Shaw was another key player, scoring five runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4.
Northwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 19 runs the game before, Bellefontaine was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They came up short against Graham Local, falling 13-2.
Bellefontaine saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joy Fogan, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Bellefontaine has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Northwestern, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Bellefontaine's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northwestern has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Bellefontaine, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Northwestern's sizable advantage in that area, the Chieftains will need to find a way to close that gap.
Northwestern might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Bellefontaine in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
