Scurry-Rosser managed to slip by Trinity Leadership the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wildcats had to suffer through a 44-14 loss at the hands of the Tigers. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.
Although Scurry-Rosser took the loss, they still got scores from Caleb Peavy and Micah Williams.
While Scurry-Rosser came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Trinity Leadership: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 46.7%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from one players: Case Kilgore, who each logged one passes deflected. Scurry-Rosser wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 36.7%.
Scurry-Rosser's defensive line didn't let Londen Cook, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Drake Manos and Logan Mullins, who racked up all four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last contest, Blooming Grove made sure to put some points up on the board against Rice on Friday. The Lions blew past the Bulldogs, posting a 50-14 win. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.
Scurry-Rosser better keep an eye on Gryason Baumgartner. He was instrumental in Blooming Grove's win, rushing for 230 yards and three scores while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. Those 230 rushing yards gave Baumgartner a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alan Caballero, who rushed for 71 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.
Scurry-Rosser moved to 3-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Blooming Grove, their win bumped their record up to an identical 3-6.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Scurry-Rosser has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 156.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Blooming Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 164.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Scurry-Rosser against Blooming Grove in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 41-14 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
