Baseball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for University Prep

University Prep extended their winning streak to six on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 7-4 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against the King's Knights. That's two games straight that the Pumas have won by just one run.

University Prep let Teddy Bergstrom and Grady Stone run wild. Bergstrom got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Stone got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave Stone a new career-high. Jasper Schmidt was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

As for King's, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this matchup were averaging 4.07 runs allowed.

On King's side, Luke Echelbarger put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Echelbarger has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for King's: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brandon McCann made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Nathaniel Bemis also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Coincidentally, University Prep and King's will both be playing Roosevelt the next time they take the field. The Knights will head out to face the Roughriders at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Pumas will play them later in the day, at 5:00 p.m.
