Cranston West is 1-8 against Pilgrim since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Patriots at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cranston West 3.7, Pilgrim 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Saturday, Cranston West was able to grind out a solid win over Cumberland, taking the game 6-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.
Cranston West's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Siena Nardelli, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Nardelli has posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Pilgrim ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Chariho. The victory was just business as usual for the Patriots, who after eight games remain undefeated this season.
Gretchen Dombeck made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Dombeck was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Madison Tuirok and Carli Harker did most of the damage at the plate: Tuirok got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Harker went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Marin Prest was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
Cranston West pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.9 runs this season. As for Pilgrim, their record now sits at 8-0.
Cranston West beat Pilgrim 10-5 when the teams last played back in June of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
