Basketball Game Preview: Cornerstone Christian Warriors vs. Cole Cougars

The Cornerstone Christian Warriors will take on the Cole Cougars at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Cornerstone Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season.

Last Saturday, Cornerstone Christian greeted the New Year with with a 56-37 win over St. Michael's. Given Cornerstone Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while St. Michael's is ranked 528th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Yasmeen Schmidt, who went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points. Her afternoon made it 38 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Regina Mendoza, who went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points and five rebounds.

Cornerstone Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Cole came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 41-32 victory over the Bulldogs.

Cole has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 17-13 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Cornerstone Christian, their win bumped their record up to 23-6.

Everything came up roses for Cornerstone Christian against Cole in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, as the squad secured a 65-35 victory. Does Cornerstone Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cole turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
