Seymour and New Albany are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Owls will host the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Seymour's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so New Albany's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Seymour's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Scottsburg hitters got past them. The Owls fell 16-11 to the Warriors on Tuesday.
Mikey Wright led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Tylan Nicholson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, New Albany entered their tilt with Floyd Central on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Highlanders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since April 19th.
Tyler McMillen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Braxton Mayfield was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Gavin Rand, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
New Albany's victory bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Seymour, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5.
Seymour came up short against New Albany when the teams last played back in April, falling 6-2. Can the Owls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
