The Valley Christian Academy Lions will be playing at home against the Hesperia Christian Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
After only six points in their last contest, Valley Christian Academy made sure to put some points up on the board against San Luis Obispo Classical Academy on Saturday. Valley Christian Academy blew past San Luis Obispo Classical Academy, posting a 62-22 win at home. Given Valley Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked third, while San Luis Obispo Classical Academy is ranked 39th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Hesperia Christian had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They breezed by PAL Academy at home to the tune of 48-0. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Hesperia Christian had established a 40 point advantage.
Ayden Ortega was his usual excellent self, rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Ortega was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards.
Hesperia Christian's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB ten times. Leading the way was Roderick Taylor and his 6.5 sacks.
Valley Christian Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Trinity Christian and 2-5 Coastal Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.9% over those games). As for Hesperia Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Things could have been worse for Valley Christian Academy, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 44-26 loss to Hesperia Christian when the teams last played back in November of 2017. Will Valley Christian Academy have more luck at home instead of on the road?
