The Bishop Gorman Crusaders will be taking part in a tournament against the Carlisle Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
Bishop Gorman is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight games dating back to last season on Thursday. They lost 11-4 to LaPoynor.
Ricardo Pineda was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carlisle). They were the clear victors by a 22-1 margin over Winona on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Indians with their most commanding win of the season.
Bryan Garza was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Carlisle got a massive performance out of Brandon Garza, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave Garza a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Goss, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Carlisle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Carlisle and bumps their season record up to 4-1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Bishop Gorman, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Bishop Gorman might still be hurting after the 12-6 defeat they got from Carlisle in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
