Walnut is 0-4 against Hatley since March of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Walnut Wildcats duke it out with Hatley Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Walnut is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Walnut saw some tournament action on Saturday. Everything went their way against Pine Grove as Walnut made off with a 7-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Baylee Spight and Addison Hicks did most of the damage at the plate: Spight scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Hicks went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Allie Jackson, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Walnut was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pine Grove only posted a batting average of .150.
Meanwhile, Hatley entered their tilt with Hamilton on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Lions. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ashlynn Dabbs made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Brileigh Lewis was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February.
Hatley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Walnut, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Walnut hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like Hatley struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Walnut came up short against Hatley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 6-1. Can Walnut avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
