Nate Gentz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Max Weaver was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Tyler Carr was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Deer Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in six consecutive games.
Deer Valley's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-8-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Agua Fria, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
Agua Fria's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Deer Valley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Agua Fria, though, as they've been averaging 12 hits. Given Deer Valley's sizable advantage in that area, the Owls will need to find a way to close that gap.
