Baseball Recap: JAG Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask JAG). They put the hurt on the Selma Saints with a sharp 19-6 victory on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Jaguars sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Maree Hall made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. JAG is 5-1 when Hall allowsone or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Hall was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Laking Anderson was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for JAG: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-5 otherwise. Austin Osbourne was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.

JAG always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .675. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in six consecutive matches.

JAG pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Selma, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

JAG and Selma could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. JAG will challenge Enterprise at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 274 places (277 vs. 3). Meanwhile, Selma (ranked 371st) will meet Demopolis (ranked 79th) at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
