The Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 55-40 victory over Cheylin. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Wheatland-Grinnell also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Wheatland-Grinnell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aliviah Ball, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ball has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karoline Schroeder, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Despite the loss, Cheylin saw an underclassman step up: Taylor McCarty scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That was a full 42.5% of Cheylin's points, marking the 16th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Hayden Ketzner, who scored seven points.
Wheatland-Grinnell is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Cheylin, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Wheatland-Grinnell will head out on the road to face off against Northern Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Northern Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday. As for Cheylin, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Golden Plains at 12:00 p.m. on February 3rd.
