Basketball Recap: Alverez Smith Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Fountain Inn

On Tuesday, the Mauldin Mavericks didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Fountain Inn Fury, but they still walked away with a 55-51 win. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Fury are ranked 118th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mauldin to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alverez Smith, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points and four steals. Those four steals gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Shaw, who posted 12 points.

Fountain Inn lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Terry Cunningham, who put up 15 points. Another player making a difference was Lucas Eubanks, who had 11 points and seven rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Mauldin and bumps their season record up to 7-1. As for Fountain Inn, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Mauldin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-45 win against Greenwood on the 19th. As for Fountain Inn, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 80-53 victory against Blue Ridge on the 19th.
