Lugoff-Elgin is 0-10 against Irmo since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lugoff-Elgin Demons will head out on the road to square off against the Irmo Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 20 consecutive losses for Lugoff-Elgin and three for Irmo.
Lugoff-Elgin struggled with assists on Tuesday (A.C. Flora had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Lugoff-Elgin's rough 72-50 loss to A.C. Flora might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lugoff-Elgin in their matchups with A.C. Flora: they've now lost seven in a row.
Lugoff-Elgin's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Teryn Hobson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Jillian Rush who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Rush has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kamille Charles, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lugoff-Elgin were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. This was only their 14th loss (out of 17 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, Irmo suffered a tough 54-33 loss at the hands of Westwood on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Irmo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Westwood is ranked 33rd).
Lugoff-Elgin's defeat was their ninth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-22. As for Irmo, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.
Lugoff-Elgin couldn't quite finish off Irmo when the teams last played back in January and fell 66-64. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Irmo's Claire Howard, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Now that Lugoff-Elgin knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
