3A - South recap October 8, 2013
Manti extended the longest winning streak in 3A - South this week by beating Richfield, 36-27. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Templars.
North Sanpete lost to Juab 56-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Wesley Wright was a key player and the best on defense this week as Manti topped the Wildcats. He forced 1 fumble, recorded 1 fumble and grabbed 1 sack.
Braxton Higgins was a beast in the backfield as Canyon View bested Delta.
Nick Robins threw for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 11-14 with 0 interceptions.
Bracken Lovell provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Rabbits lost to the Falcons. He completed 10 passes for 223 yards and also ran for 38 yards. Lovell's favorite target this week was Kale Leavitt, who caught 5 passes for 152 yards.
Leavitt was the best wideout in the league this week as Delta lost to Canyon View. Leavitt racked up 5 receptions for 152 yards. Riley Nielson helped Delta's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 70 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Wasps' Robins and Dedric Davidson have proven to be a lethal combination. Robins has thrown for 1,199 yards this season, while Davidson has 17 catches for 370 yards. Robby Robinson's team's Higgins leads the league in rushing yards with 931.
Higgins of the the Falcons is just 69 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 117 carries Higgins has accumulated 931 yard this year.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Juab's Davidson goes up against Cole Meacham's team's Connor Aste.
One of 3A - South's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Mike Bowring's team and the Templars face off next week.
Next week's game between the Wasps and Manti will feature an aerial matchup as Robins tests his arm against Aste's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Richfield takes on Russ Fowles' team. Corey Morrison's team is in first place, while the Rabbits are in fourth place.
There should be lots of points scored when the Templars and Juab face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Manti comes in having scored 237 this season, while the Wasps have scored 261. The Templars scored 36 points last week as they defeated the Wildcats.
Canyon View made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,944 from 12,773. The advance stemmed from a 45-16 victory over Delta last week.
