The Webster County Highlanders will square off against the Greenbrier West Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Webster County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
St. Marys hit Webster County with a four-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Highlanders fell 7-2 to the Blue Devils. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Webster County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Greyden Channel, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Greater Beckley Christian.
Landen Doss was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Landon McClung made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Dakota Hamrick was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Webster County's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Greenbrier West, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Greenbrier West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Webster County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. It's a different story for Greenbrier West, though, as they've only averaged .246. Will they be able to contain Webster County's hitters?
