After some red-hot offensive attacks in their last six matchup, The Canyon View Jaguars finally came back down to earth on Thursday. They were the victim of a tough 35-12 loss at the hands of Desert Edge. Canyon View gained 87 more yards on the day, but it was Desert Edge that made the best of use of them.
Canyon View's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Beau Devens, who threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns.
Desert Edge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Markhi Mckinnon, who rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Aryon Thomas was another key contributor, rushing for 70 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Canyon View's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Desert Edge, Millennium, and Buckeye. As for Desert Edge, the victory was the seventh in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon View will challenge Verrado at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Verrado is ranked 57th, while Canyon View is ranked 44th). As for Desert Edge, they will head out on the road to face off against Cactus at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th.
