The Cross Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the St. John's Islanders at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cross knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten contests -- so hopefully St. John's likes a good challenge.
Cross put the finishing touches on their 12th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 71-38 win over Palmetto Scholars Academy on the road. Given Cross' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Palmetto Scholars Academy is ranked 289th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cross can attribute much of their success to Caden Ramsey, who scored 18 points along with three steals, and Jamez Way, who scored 15 points along with six assists and three steals. Way is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jayden Middleton, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, St. John's pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 69-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Military Magnet Academy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. John's in their matchups with Military Magnet Academy: they've now lost three in a row.
Cross is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. As for St. John's, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-17.
Cross was able to grind out a solid win over St. John's when the teams last played back in January, winning 56-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cross since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
