Fairfax Christian is 7-0 against Virginia Academy since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Fairfax Christian Cardinals will look to defend their home court against the Virginia Academy Patriots at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Fairfax Christian's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Virginia Academy has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Fairfax Christian pushed their score all the way to 67 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 76-67 to Springdale Prep. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Fairfax Christian came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked tenth in Virginia, while Springdale Prep is ranked 78th in Maryland).
Defeat or not, Fairfax Christian got some senior leadership from Ke'Juan Richburg and Elijah Adegbenro. Richburg scored eight points along with five assists and five steals, while Adegbenro. scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Frank Siaca Bey, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Virginia Academy, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-38 loss to Steward on Monday.
Despite their loss, Virginia Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Rondel Jones Jr., who scored 13 points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Ben Johnson, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Fairfax Christian's loss dropped their record down to 26-7. As for Virginia Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-20.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Fairfax Christian have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 49.7% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Virginia Academy, though, as they've only made 13% of their threes this season. Given Fairfax Christian's sizable advantage in that area, Virginia Academy will need to find a way to close that gap.
Fairfax Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Virginia Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 63-57 win.
