The Reedsburg Beavers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They walked away with a 68-60 win over Sparta. The win was some much needed relief for Reedsburg as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Gavin Rhead and Grant Geier certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Rhead dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Geier scored 17 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was John Rice, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Sparta were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. This was only their 11th loss (out of 15 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Reedsburg's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-15. As for Sparta, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Reedsburg won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Golden Eagles at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Mauston is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Sparta, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Hilltoppers at 7:15 p.m. Onalaska knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully the Spartans like a good challenge.
