Tri-Valley waltzed into their match on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Zanesville Blue Devils 18-1. Considering the Scotties have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Paiton Murphy made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other pitching news, Ashlyn Davis looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April.
Back at the plate, Tri-Valley let Cydnee Wolford and Alivia Reffitt run wild. Wolford went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one double, while Reffitt went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave Wolford a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Peterson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Tri-Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Zanesville only posted a batting average of .062.
Tri-Valley pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Zanesville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tri-Valley will take on Crooksville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Scotties are facing the Ceramics at the right time seeing as the Ceramics are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Zanesville, they will square off against Mt. Vernon at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight.
