Pojoaque Valley and Moriarty are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Elks/Elkettes will take on the Pintos at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Pojoaque Valley's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
On Tuesday, Pojoaque Valley got the win against Espanola Valley by a conclusive 17-8.
Stephanie Romero was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashle Duran, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pojoaque Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Moriarty waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Sundevils by a score of 9-5.
Isabella Gallegos made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shae Rios, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Sienna Rios, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Moriarty's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pojoaque Valley, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-17.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pojoaque Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Moriarty struggles in that department as they've averaged .555. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pojoaque Valley might still be hurting after the 15-6 defeat they got from Moriarty when the teams last played back in April. Can the Elks/Elkettes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
