South Side is 2-8 against Laurel since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Rams will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. South Side is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, South Side got the win against Springdale by a conclusive 15-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.
Rj Fisher made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, South Side got a massive performance out of Cole MCCoy, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Mccoy also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was RydeR Goe, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
South Side always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Laurel and Mohawk Area, and Mohawk Area kept the tradition alive. The Spartans fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 4-3 on Friday. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Kolton Carlson was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Luca Santini, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
South Side's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Laurel, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
South Side suffered a grim 18-9 defeat to Laurel in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
