Pendleton Heights and Greenfield-Central are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Pendleton Heights Arabians will take on the Greenfield-Central Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Pendleton Heights can't be too worried about heading out to take on Greenfield-Central: they just beat Centerville at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Pendleton Heights took down Centerville 62-48 on Wednesday. The score was all tied up 29-29 at the break, but the Arabians were the better team in the second half.
It was another big night for Cooper Sims, who shot 75% from the field to rack up 30 points and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Pendleton Heights' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Mozingo, who posted nine points and five boards.
Pendleton Heights was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Greenfield-Central waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Falcons, posting a 72-44 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Falcons are ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pendleton Heights better keep an eye on Braylon Mullins. He was instrumental in Greenfield-Central's win, going 9-for-12 en route to 24 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. Mullins' evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 24 points. Another player making a difference was Michael Johnson, who shot 54% from the field on his way to 18 points and four steals.
Greenfield-Central pushed their record up to 21-3 with the win, which was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pendleton Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 9-14.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Pendleton Heights has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 36.9% of their three-pointers per game. However, it's not like Greenfield-Central struggles in that department as they've nailed 45.8% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Pendleton Heights was taken down by Greenfield-Central 73-40 in their previous matchup back in January. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pendleton Heights was down 49-22.
