Baseball Recap: Eleanor Roosevelt Has No Trouble Against Bladensburg

Eleanor Roosevelt came out on top against Bladensburg on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Raiders put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 13-5 victory. Considering the Raiders have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaden Watkins-Fleisher looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, DJ Fuller was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cannon Knight, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Eleanor Roosevelt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Eleanor Roosevelt's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Bladensburg, they are on a 35-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eleanor Roosevelt will face off against Suitland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Bladensburg, they will take on Bowie at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight.
