The Highland Trojans will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Griffith Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Highland is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
Last Thursday, Highland ended up a good deal behind Hanover Central and lost 51-37. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Highland in their matchups with Hanover Central: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite their defeat, Highland saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Walter Glover jr, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Kristijan Zekavica was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Griffith scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 75-65 victory over Hammond Morton. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Savon Miles was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianni Feaster, who scored five points along with three steals.
Highland has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Griffith, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Highland have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Griffith struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Highland came up short against Griffith when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 39-29. Will Highland have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
