Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Memorial Mustangs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. Their rough 42-20 defeat to Heights on Saturday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 571st, while Heights is ranked 261st).
Heights' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lamont Robins, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, and also picked up 59 receiving yards. Heights also got a significant boost from Dylan Ray, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 82 yards.
Heights' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Jaylon Bihms and Jordan Clavelle who racked up 6.5 sacks between them.
Memorial now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Heights, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Heights will head out on the road to face off against Fort Bend Hightower at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Bend Hightower is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
