Wilson hasn't had much luck against South Florence recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wilson Tigers will look to defend their home field against the South Florence Bruins at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Wilson took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Everything went their way against Crestwood as Wilson made off with a 17-7 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Wilson let Zoey Miller and Lauren Sehnke run wild. Miller went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI, while Sehnke went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance gave Miller a new career-high in runs. Meyonna McDaniel was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Wilson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, South Florence waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Gators get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Bruins' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Payton Perry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Page White was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Blakely Blue, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
South Florence's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Wilson, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Wilson's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. Wilson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for South Florence, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wilson continue to outrun the ball?
Wilson suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to South Florence in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Wilson have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
