The Stockbridge Panthers couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Michigan Center by a score of 41-38. While losing is never fun, Stockbridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while Michigan Center is ranked 33rd).
Stockbridge lost on Monday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alaina Kellenberger, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taylor Lockhart, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds.
Stockbridge's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Michigan Center, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stockbridge will face off against Grass Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Michigan Center, they will head out on the road to face off against Concord at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Concord focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
