The Miami Stingarees typically have all the answers at home, but on Monday the Mater Lakes Academy Bears proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Stingarees by a score of 73-63. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mater Lakes Academy.
Mater Lakes Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Khanye Moss led the charge by scoring 16 points. Another player making a difference was Anthony Knowles, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Miami's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Romari Robinson, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Robinson is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Absalon Cortes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten assists.
Even though they lost, Miami were working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mater Lakes Academy only racked up 12 assists.
Mater Lakes Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. As for Miami, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mater Lakes Academy will take on the Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. True North Classical Academy is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Miami, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Hi-Tides at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Miami Beach will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Stingarees are ranked 42nd).
