The Wakefield Trojans were the 64-57 winner over the Lutheran-Northeast Eagles when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Wakefield ended up on the wrong side of a tough 56-34 walloping at the hands of Lutheran-Northeast on Thursday. Wakefield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-21.
Despite the loss, Wakefield had strong showings from Jacob Borg, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds, and Anthony Valenzuela, who scored nine points. Valenzuela has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played.
Wakefield struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lutheran-Northeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braden Feddern, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Josh Rojas, who scored 12 points.
Wakefield has fallen quite a ways from their 21-5 record last season and are now at 3-5. As for Lutheran-Northeast, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Wakefield will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Wisner-Pilger at 7:00 p.m. on December 28th. Wisner-Pilger is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Lutheran-Northeast and Hartington-Newcastle will round out the year against one another at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday at. Hartington-Newcastle will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Lutheran-Northeast is ranked 15th).
