Basketball Recap: Avon Extends Winning Streak to Three

Avon hadn't done well against Zionsville recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Avon Orioles were the clear victor by a 59-35 margin over the Zionsville Eagles. The Orioles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.

Avon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keriawn Berry led the charge by going 8 of 9 on his way to 19 points. The dominant performance also gave Berry a new career-high in field goal percentage (89%). Kendrick Dunmore was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Drew Snively, who posted 12 points. Preston Johnson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assists of the season.

The victory (which was Avon's third in a row) raised their record to 16-2. As for Zionsville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Looking ahead, Avon will be playing at home against Franklin Central at 7:30 p.m. on February 14th. As for Zionsville, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-53 win against Bloomington North on the 8th.
