Manzano is 1-9 against Valley since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Manzano Monarchs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Valley Vikings at 3:30 p.m. Manzano is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
While Manzano's win against West Mesa wasn't quite the blowout they won the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Manzano came out on top in a nail-biter against West Mesa on Saturday, sneaking past 4-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Manzano got a big performance out of Aljaris Pineda, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Walter, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Valley owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over East Mountain.
Jayden Martinez made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Thomas Velarde, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Caden Barth also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.
Manzano pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Valley, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Manzano hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
