Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Whitney Young Dolphins, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 26-19 to the Broncos on Saturday. Whitney Young lost against Kenwood in their previous head to head back in August of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 48-0 score last time.
Despite the loss, Whitney Young still got an impressive performance from Nasir Rankin, who gained 143 total yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 49 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
Kenwood can attribute much of their success to Mako Grant, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 37 receiving yards.
Whitney Young's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Kenwood, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4.
Whitney Young does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Kenwood will head out on the road to face off against St. Rita at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Rita presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Kenwood in Illinois (St. Rita is ranked 14th, while Kenwood is ranked 71st).
