Basketball Recap: Jaylan Tran's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Spring over Nimitz

Spring lost against Nimitz back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Spring Lions took a hard 73-56 fall against the Nimitz Cougars.

Spring's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylan Tran, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tadarius Wade, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Spring smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.

Nimitz's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Bergeron, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 22 points. That's the most points Bergeron has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimiren Ratliff, who went 9 of 11 on his way to 27 points.

Spring's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-12. As for Nimitz, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 12-13.

Spring will face off against Aldine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nimitz, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Nimitz Cougars duke it out with the Dekaney Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Nimitz is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season.
