The Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Trojans's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They escaped with a win against North by the margin of a single free throw, 48-47. Given Hunter-Kinard-Tyler's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Eagles are ranked 242nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tilayzia Youmans was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with five rebounds and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aysiah Bonaparte, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was CoCo Charley, who scored 12 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Charley has scored all season. Alayshia Mack was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Hunter-Kinard-Tyler has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for North, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Hunter-Kinard-Tyler will head out on the road to square off against the Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calhoun County will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. North will take on the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Denmark-Olar is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.
