St. Augustine Catholic has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Catalina Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
St. Augustine Catholic struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (Benson had 19 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. St. Augustine Catholic ended up on the wrong side of a rough 59-39 walloping at the hands of Benson. St. Augustine Catholic has not had much luck with Benson recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Lourdes Gamez, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and six steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Kiersten Ball, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Catalina's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Tanque Verde, falling 53-25. Catalina was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-7.
St. Augustine Catholic's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-5. As for Catalina, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6.
St. Augustine Catholic strolled past Catalina in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 by a score of 32-17. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Augustine Catholic since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
