The Mount View Golden Knights will head out on the road to challenge the James Monroe Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mount View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 two weeks ago.
Mount View struggled with offensive rebounds two weeks ago (River View had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mount View was dealt a 62-34 defeat at the hands of River View.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jawuan Jackson, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and four steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Zymir Martin was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Meanwhile, James Monroe had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They really took it to Montcalm for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-25 win at home. James Monroe has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season.
Ryan Cole continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Ridgeway, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Mount View now has a losing record at 2-3. As for James Monroe, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Mount View have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34 rebounds per game. However, it's not like James Monroe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mount View came up short against James Monroe when the teams last played back in February of 2022, falling 65-55. Thankfully for Mount View, Eli Allen (who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
