The Blackford Bruins lost against the Lapel Bulldogs back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Blackford fell just short of Lapel by a score of 35-33.
Blackford lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sydnee Morris, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals. Morris is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played. Faith Gephart was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lapel to victory, but perhaps none more so than Annalee Stow, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laniah Wills, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Blackford's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Lapel, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with that win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blackford will take on Mississinewa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mississinewa knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Blackford likes a good challenge. As for Lapel, they will head out on the road to face off against Shenandoah at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Shenandoah focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday.
