The Lamar Texans will challenge the Heights Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lamar had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Cesar E. Chavez put an end to it on Friday. The Texans lost 8-2 to the Lobos. The Texans haven't had much luck with the Lobos recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Clarissa Perez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Heights waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Generals a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Heights got a massive performance out of Evelyn Tovar, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Carreon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Heights' victory bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Lamar, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lamar has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Heights struggles in that department as they've averaged .468. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lamar suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to Heights in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Texans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
