Softball Game Preview: Providence Academy Patriots vs. Greenland Pirates

The Providence Academy Patriots will take on the Greenland Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Thursday, Providence Academy got the win against West Fork by a conclusive 14-1. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Abby Roy was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Roy was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Providence Academy let Macy Schoonover and Briley Woolbridge run wild. Schoonover went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Woolbridge scored four runs while going 3-for-5. Those five RBI gave Schoonover a new career-high. Anna Walker was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.

Providence Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Greenland, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past County Line 13-3 on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Pirates needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Providence Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Greenland, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

Providence Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Greenland in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 7-5. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
