The Wesson Cobras's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight defeat. They suffered a rough 77-56 defeat at the hands of South Pike. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Cobras players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Damarion Smith, who scored 11 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Austin Johnson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
South Pike was led to victory by Jovon Leavy and Lavell Thompson. Leavy almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine rebounds, while Thompson dropped a double-double on 25 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Leavy has scored at least a third of South Pike's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Donald Lewis, who scored six points along with four steals.
Wesson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for South Pike, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.
Wesson will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Pike, they and the Tigers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Jefferson County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matchups -- so hopefully the Eagles likes a good challenge.
