Holmes extended the longest winning streak in 3A/2A Northeastern Coastal this week by beating First Flight, 53-20. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Aces.
Bertie and Currituck County played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Bertie eventually emerging with a 13-7 victory.
The Night Hawks' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dennis Mullen threw for 67 yards and Billy Foster had 34 yards receiving. On the ground Wyatt Robertson chipped in 99 yards. Chris Ruth helped First Flight's passing attack out by catching one ball for 33 yards.
Devin Leithauser made the biggest impact on defense this week as First Flight fell to Holmes. The 5-foot-9 junior pulled down one interception.
First Flight's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Night Hawks feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Nathan Parker has thrown for 529 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Foster has 19 catches for 367 yards. Robertson leads the league in rushing with 692 yards.
A big matchup in 3A/2A Northeastern Coastal this week will be when Northeastern takes on the Knights. At the moment, the Eagles are in second, while Currituck County is in sixth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Northeastern takes on John Wheeler's team. Antonio Moore's team has allowed 88 points this season, while the Knights have given up 95. The Eagles allowed 14 points last week as they topped Wilson.
Bob Turner's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 53 points on Jim Prince's team.
